A few more gems

A few days ago I shared with you some quotes to reflect on and think about. Here are a few more gems to ponder on:

Look up and not down. Look forward and not back. Look out and not in. And lend a hand.

We become like those whom we habitually admire.

The human race is divided into two classes: those who go ahead and do something, and those who sit back and ask “Why wasn’t it done the other way?”

Fortune lost, nothing lost. Courage lost, much lost. Honor lost, more lost. Soul lost, all lost.

Everything is possible if you have one person to believe in you.

If it is not right, do not do it. If it is not true, do not say it.

The strength of a man’s virtues must be measured, not by his extraordinary efforts, but by his ordinary life.

There is nothing in the world so much admired as a man who knows how to bear unhappiness with courage.

Religion is meant to be bread for daily use, not cake for special occasions.

At the end of life we shall not be asked how much pleasure we had in it, but how much service we gave in it; not how full it was of a success, but how full it was of sacrifice; not how happy we were, but how helpful we were; not how ambition was gratified, but how love was served.

There are two ways of treating gossip about other people, and they’re both good ways. One is not to listen to it, and the other is not to repeat it.
